Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about working with Thames Translation
Working With Us
How do I get a quote?
Send us your document via our contact form or email it directly to gluce@thamestranslation.com. We will assess it and respond with a detailed quote within 2 hours during business hours. Include any deadlines, target languages, and intended use for the most accurate quote.
How long does translation take?
Turnaround depends on document length, complexity, and language pair. As a guide: certified translations of short documents can be delivered same-day. Longer legal documents typically take 2-5 business days. Urgent timelines are available on request and quoted individually.
What file formats do you accept?
We accept all common formats: PDF, Word (.doc/.docx), Excel, PowerPoint, scanned images, and photographs of documents. For certified translations, we can work from scans or photos of the original.
How much does translation cost?
Pricing is based on word count, language pair, subject matter, and turnaround required. We provide transparent, all-inclusive quotes with no hidden charges. Send us your document for a free quote.
Quality & Expertise
Quality and Expertise
Are your translators qualified lawyers or accountants?
Our translators are professional linguists with subject-matter expertise in legal or financial content. Many hold law degrees or have worked in legal or financial roles. All have a minimum of five years’ professional translation experience and are native speakers of the target language.
Do you use machine translation?
For standard legal and financial documents, we use human translation. We offer AI-assisted translation (MTPE) as a separate service where appropriate — typically for high-volume, time-sensitive content — but this is always post-edited by a qualified human translator. We never use unedited machine translation for client deliverables.
What quality checks do you carry out?
Every translation goes through a multi-stage process: translation by a specialist linguist, independent review by a second linguist, terminology consistency check using CAT tools, and a final formatting and completeness check before delivery.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality and Security
Do you sign NDAs?
Yes. We are happy to sign client NDAs before any documents are shared. Confidentiality is standard in all our work, and our translators are bound by confidentiality obligations.
How do you handle sensitive documents?
Documents are transferred securely, stored only for the duration of the project, and deleted upon completion (or retained for an agreed period if required). We comply with UK GDPR and can accommodate specific data handling requirements on request.
